Product Information

 

It is a natural black colorant (INS No. E153), whose core function is to provide a black appearance for food. It is odorless and tasteless, and widely used in the food industry for appearance enhancement and process optimization.
Made from plant residues such as bamboo, coconut shells and wood via high-temperature carbonization, its main component is carbon. It appears as black powder and is insoluble in water and organic solvents. The production process involves no chemical synthesis, complies with the food additive standards of the EU, US FDA and China’s GB 2760, and falls into the category of natural colorants.
Physical adsorption property: Its porous structure can adsorb off-odors in food (e.g., oil odor), indirectly improving the purity of taste. A small amount added is enough to create a deep black color. Besides, it has stable color, resists high temperatures (above 120℃) and acids/alkalis, and is not easy to fade.


Application


Baking & Pastries: Used to make bamboo charcoal bread, black cookies, dark-style cakes, etc. It creates differentiation through a black appearance (e.g., the viral "coal-shaped cake") and enhances shelf appeal.
Candies & Snacks: Applied in hard candies, soft candies, marshmallows (e.g., Halloween-themed black candies) and potato chips. The matte black color creates a strong visual contrast with gold packaging and white fillings.
Dairy Products & Cold Drinks: Added to ice cream, yogurt and pudding to make "black ice cream" and "ink-colored yogurt", aligning with the "dark style" positioning of trendy foods.
